Update: Migron Agreement
Well-known, outspoken right-wing lawyer, Eliyakim HaEtzni, from Kiryat Arba writes about The Yesha Council agreement with The Defense Ministry concerning Migron:
A not-so-young woman went to a new doctor. During initial intake the doctor asked her how old she was. She answered, "People give me 40 years old." "If that's what they offer," the doctor answered, "grab it!"
HaEtzni went on in his article to say that if, indeed, The Yesha Council agreement is as reported he'll eat his hat.
Get ready for your hat supper, Eliyakim.
In an amazing development (although not surprising to Danny Dayan, Zambish or Pinchas Vallerstein), the top legal advisor to The Defense Ministry has signed off on a document, and sent said document to the government to present to The Supreme Court tomorrow (August 14) in answer to radical left-wing group, Peace Now's, court case concerning Migron, stating the following:
1. The Yesha Council has been given 30 days to choose a site for the "permanent settlement of Migron" from 4 alternatives within the borders of The Binyamin Regional Council and offered by the Council to The Defense Ministry.
2. The goal is that within the shortest possible time after the choice of said site, the necessary plans for the permanent settlement of Migron will be submitted to The Minhal HaEzrahi for approval.
3. After receipt of approval, the creation of appropriate infrastructure will begin.
4. Simultaneously, building plans will be undertaken and the residents will organize themselves toward the purchase of their permanent homes.
5. Until such a time as their permanent homes are completed, Migron residents will remain in their homes on the current Migron site.
6. The Yesha Council will supervise and accompany all stages of this process.
In case someone is scratching his/her head thinking s/he must not understand, given the apparent and very vocal disapproval of a few Rabbis (notably only 2 or 3 who actually reside in Yesha) – the answer is:
"YES, this is a precedent-setting agreement which effectively puts an end to the entire problem of so-called 'illegal outposts'!!!"
(not to mention an end to the freeze on settlement in Yesha)
Rumor has it that the headline for HaEtzni's article to be seen in Yediyot Ahronot on Tuesday is: Peace Now – Please bring many many more cases to The Supreme Court.
Grudges, frustrations and leftover anger from Gush Katif days notwithstanding, it's high time for everyone to do what is in Yesha's best interests – in Israel's best interests – and get firmly behind this amazing agreement.
(A little bit of credit where credit's due wouldn't be out of line either, but that's just my opinion.)
